Will There Ever Be Affordable Housing in Hawaii?

Hawaii ’s lack of affordable housing has been a problem for a long time. It is depressing. Moreover, it is unfair! If you didn’t buy a house in the 1970’s, you’re pretty much screwed to spend the rest of your life in renter’s hell. And yet, there was always the hopeful rumor of the market dropping soon. Be patient, we were told. Then, finally, the state announced the much awaited news of affordable housing….in Kapolei and Ewa. Affordable housing, yes! I thought. In Kapolei and Ewa? This is what I’ve been waiting for? Tract housing in the desert??

Indeed, the state has mighty plans in store for Kapolei, the next big city. Do they think, because Hawaii people love Las Vegas so much, they will love Kapolei?
